Louisville Water draws raw (or untreated) water directly from the Ohio River and through the natural aquifer next to the Ohio River using Riverbank Filtration technology. Wellhead protection is a plan designed to protect the groundwater resources of a public water system from contamination. Learn more about Wellhead Protection.
Louisville Water offers a variety of resources that are practical and specific to our area for the protection of our source water, including the "Homeowner's Guidebook of Native Plants, Integrated Pest Management, and Pollution Prevention," Field Guides and the Wellhead Protection Plan (WHPP) brochures listed below. Additionally, the Wellhead Protection Plan Update report (May 2014) for the Riverbank Filtration wells at the B.E. Payne Water Treatment Plant is available.
