From Louisville to Disney World and back — three times. That’s roughly how many miles of main Louisville Water has in its system (more than 4,200), and, as shown in the graphic below, it’s a number that has been growing in recent years.
The total of 17.5 miles in 2018 represents an especially good year for Louisville Water as well as a sign of economic health in our region (see graph below).
(And even the relatively low number of 5.63 in 2012 actually showed a re-awaking of real estate development after the recession.)
New water mains often are installed as part of real estate developers’ new subdivisions or commercial projects, and Louisville Water’s engineering team works with developers and their design professionals.
In 2019, it’s anticipated that new development will account for approximately 17 miles of distribution water main.
