Broken water main provides downtown lunchtime distraction

A broken water main spewed water high into the air Tuesday afternoon at a busy downtown Louisville intersection.

The break was reported just before noon at Second and Market Streets, near the Kentucky International Convention Center, said Kelley Dearing Smith, Louisville Water vice president of communications and marketing.

“The main break provided a little lunchtime entertainment for drivers and people walking downtown,” Smith said. “Our crews gained control of the break after about 40 minutes and are now working on repairs.”

About a dozen businesses along the Market Street corridor were expected to be without water through Tuesday afternoon.

Update: Water service was restored Tuesday at 6 p.m.
